Description
There are three distinct stances that one can take towards a theory - acceptance, use, and pursuit. These stances are in principle independent from each other, meaning that one stance one can take any these stances towards a theory without taking the other stances. Thus, all of the following combinations are possible:
- a theory is accepted, used, and pursued at the same time;
- a theory is accepted and used without being pursued;
- a theory is accepted and pursued without being used;
- a theory is used and pursued without being accepted;
- a theory is only accepted;
- a theory is only used;
- a theory is only pursued;
- a theory is neither accepted, nor used, nor pursued.
