Abstract
This article provides a brief summary of the history of the History of Science Society. The society was founded by George Sarton in 1924 to secure the future of the journal 'Isis' that was founded in Belgium in 1918 it also currently publishes the journal 'Osiris'. Although its membership is international, it primarily represents North American historians of science. The article also summarizes the work of HSS's executive office.
