|Preamble=The concept of an epistemic agent was made reference to by Barseghyan CiteRef::Barseghyan (2018) but currently lacks a scientonomic definition. Communities are taken to be capable of taking epistemic stances towards epistemic elements bearing a scientific mosaic pp. 43-52 , but it is not clear why this is so, and or what general properties precisely constitutes 'bearing a system must have in order mosaic' or whether or not this is the best way to be deemed capable of doing sodefine epistemic agency. The issue of whether individuals can be epistemic agents, or whether tools and instruments can be requires clarification.
|Modification=An epistemic agent is an agent capable of taking epistemic stances towards epistemic elements. The taking of these stances must be intentional, that is 1) The agent must have a semantic understanding of the propositions that constitute the epistemic element in question and its available alternatives; 2) The agent must be able to choose from among the available alternatives with reason, and with the motive of acquiring knowledge.
